What is the most discreet way to maintain a liquid diet?

I would like to maintain a liquid diet for weight loss. I simply do not wish to worry my family or make them fear that I am anorexic.

Answer (1):

My sister was anorexic and consumed a lot of yogurt and animal protein. She was not aware that sugar and dairy and meat promotes the growth of tumors (Professor T. Colin Campbell). Most commercial liquid diet formulations have excess cow milk protein (caesin). My sister died of cancer after a two year valiant battle using the most advanced chemical and radiation treatments. Years earlier, even as a medical professional, she made the mistake of not eating a healthy diet and building energy reserves in muscle tissue. If she had, I’m convinced that her body would have been magnificent and healthy svelt appearance and she would not have died prematurely.

Psychologically, it can be better to not associate meals with others when you are trying to develop healthy eating habits. This way you can avoid the temptation of junk food that may remain in the house. You may even purchase in bulk commercial food containers and prepare solid and healthy food a few times each week to eat away from home.

Check out “green smoothies” on the Internet for healthy and delicious drinks. I had a dairy allergy that I didn’t discover until I started a whole plant based diet. Dark leafy greens in a smoothie can provide easily absorbed calcium, iron, and contribute to your protein requirements. Legumes and whole grains can complete all protein requirements. Meat and dairy are not required, but if they are eaten should be consumed in great moderation, perhaps as a flavoring rather than a main portion at a meal. East African marathon runners who consistently win every major marathon eat whole plant based foods and add just minimal meat for flavoring. Their country is too poor to consume a Western diet, and they have significantly less cancer, diabetes, and vascular disease as a consequence. (“The China Study”, Professor T. Colin Campbell)

I’d also seek out someone who has expertise in a “whole plant based diet” for ongoing eating habits. The problem with a liquid diet is the fact that you cannot and should not eat this way for the rest of your life. Most often the commercial liquid diet (protein mix) products lack sufficient fiber and phytonutrients that are available in fresh whole plant based foods. According to Gina Kolata, the vast majority of people who go on temporary diets will re-gain most of the weight they lost when they quit.

This way of eating is the healthiest way to eat and one of the fastest way to lose body fat. Even former president Bill Clinton announced that he had lost 24 pounds by eating a “whole plant based diet” as recommended by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. I lost the weight without a liquid diet, without counting calories, and without ever feeling hungry. My motivation to continue this way of eating has to do with how good I feel when I eat a balanced vegetarian diet and avoid junk food, excess salt, sugar, fat, and processed food ingredients.

For more information, I’d read a book by Dr. Dean Ornish, “Eat More, Weigh Less”, or for a more technical perspective I’d read “Breaking the Food Seduction” by Dr. Neal Barnard.

Families can be a royal pain when it comes to permanently changing bad habits. To learn how you can break bad eating habits, please consider a book “The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force That Undermines Health & Happiness” by Douglas J. Lisle and Alan Goldhamer. Libraries in my area will order books that are recommended to them by patrons.

This book explains the psychological and physiological wiring of our brain that is associated with eating. This is not conjecture, but rather, it is based upon scientific studies. I was amazed at how much of our behavior is genetically coded rather under conscious control. A liquid diet is a good start if you want to lose weight quickly.

When you complete your initial liquid diet, please consider going toward an optimally healthy whole plant based diet. No doubt you will get push back from your family. Some will claim that you will get sick if you do not eat great quantities of meat and diary (this is untrue for the vast majority of vegetarians eating a balanced diet).

For a svelt body as you get close to your optimum body weight, you need to master free weight training. Free weight training allows you to store calories in muscle rather than fat. If you don’t have energy reserves in muscle tissue, you will have obvious fat reserves that are seven times the bulk of muscle storing equivalent energy. Muscles store energy more efficiently. Seven pounds of fat (in calories) are equivalent to one pound of muscle tissue. Which would you rather have: 1 pound of muscle, or 7 pounds of fat?
