What if you DON’T like to exercise?

Ask:

I am a person who battles my weight I am by no means a small size but on the other hand I am not the largest size either.

What if you DON’t like to excersize and what are good ways to get motivated and enjoy excersize.

My husband is one who is at the gym every day and he is slender. I get discouraged that if I dont see results right away and right now I find every excuse not to excersize.

Does it take a lot of time to loseweight for a healthy stable weight loss? What is a good solid healthy time period to lose over 40 pounds.

Any suggestions?

Get an IPOD and put some great songs on it. Songs that get you pumped!!

Also, if your gym has a TV, go when your favorite show is on, get on the EFX, and zone out watching TV. It’ll take your mind off of what you are doing.

OR…Go for a walk to your favorite park.

OR…Promise yourself a smoothie on the way home from the gym. It’ll give you something to look forward to.

OR…remember how good it felt the last time you went to the gym.

OR…take your gym clothes with you to the office, school, or wherever and go to the gym before you go home. That way you don’t have a chance to get home, zone out, and talk yourself out of going to the gym.

Losing weight in a healthy way means like 1-2 lbs. a week. You lose more in the beginning (maybe a couple lbs. the first week) and then you’ll hit a plateau (not gaining or losing). That is when you need to change up your workout routine (like jog instead of bike).

To lose 40lbs, I would give yourself 6 mos of eating healthy (cut sodium, sugar, and sat. fat) and regularly exercising (3x’s a week, 30 min sessions of cardio).

Good luck and keep your eyes on the prize.

I have always hated to exercise. However, I hate it somewhat less now, thanks to a weight-loss program I started called SparkPeople.

This program guides you through the dietary and lifestyle changes needed to lose weight at a healthy pace and keep it off. I lost 25 pounds over 3 1/2 months. The program does not allow you to try and lose weight rapidly than a couple of pounds a week. So losing 40 pounds would take at least 20 weeks, probably a bit more to allow for a plateau or two.

The great thing about the program is that it is designed especially for people who are hesitant about dieting and who may despise exercise. It kind of tricks you into starting out really small, but you still see results pretty quickly. Once you do see results, the program gets you to add a bit more exercise and dietary guidelines. It’s pretty flexible as to which exercises you can do, and provides online demos.

You can track the foods you eat and the exercise you do. There are also lots of recipes, articles, and a message board.

My husband also lost the same amount of weight and he has kept it off for several months so far. I am now pregnant, so I have to gain weight, but the healthy habits stayed, and I continue to track all of my food to make sure I eat a reasonable amount of calories.
